HATCHERY
Our quality catfish begin their lives at our Inverness, Mississippi fish hatchery, where under controlled conditions, eggs are genetically selected for certain growth characteristics and are placed in nursery ponds where they begin the process of maturing into a marketable catfish. A brood fish will lay from 3,000 to 4,000 eggs per pound of body weight over an average of 12 years. Our hatchery incorporates a pure, fresh and dependable supply of high-quality water. Harvest Select operates 875 acres of fingerling ponds and provides some of the best fingerlings found in the industry. After seven days at a temperature of 78 degrees, the egg masses, called spawns, begin to
hatch. The young, called fry, must be fed 6 to 12 times a day for good survival and growth. A team of trained employees closely monitor our fingerling ponds. The fingerlings are fed a protein rich diet of finely ground feed until they reach 4-7 inches in length. At the optimal time, they are harvested in seines, loaded in baskets and carefully transferred to aerated tank trucks to be placed in our grow out ponds. All of the fish are harvested from the nursery pond before it is restocked with new fingerlings. Harvest Select takes pride in making sure that all of our catfish are cared for from their beginning until delivered to our customers. Our U.S. farm raised catfish is a wholesome and eco-friendly choice. Harvest Select catfish are farmed with respect to the environment while providing
a nutritious and prime quality product that you can be proud toserve.
